Salma Hayek’s Daughter is Doing Something Special for Children with Cancer

Salma Hayek

In the spirit of giving this holiday season, Salma Hayek announced on Instagram that her 8 year-old daughter Valentina is doing something special with her hair. She is letting her hair grow long so she can donate it to eventually be turned into a wig for children with cancer.

There are a variety of organizations for both children and adults that you can donate inches of your hair to be turned into wigs for children with cancer or those that suffer from diseases that cause hair loss. Most require that the hair be 8-10 inches in length or longer. It must be clean, dry and braided or put in a pony-tail. Hair that is dyed is acceptable, though they prefer hair that is healthy and not chemically treated. Have you ever thought about donating your hair? Below are just a few organizations that you can research for hair donation.

Organizations That Accept Hair Donations:

Children With Hairloss

Wigs for Kids

Locks of Love

So, what exactly happens after you donate your hair? Most hair salons will cut it for free if you tell them you are donating your hair. Check out this video that shows the process from beginning to end, courtesy of Buzzfeed.
