Frida Kahlo Is Getting Her Own Barbie Doll And We Have Feelings
We love Frida Kahlo. We love her individuality, her boldness, her unapologetic voice, and her undeniable talent. Since her death and rising popularity, her image has been used on everything from tampons, skincare products, to sneakers. ¿ Qué dices?
And while we think she would be rolling over in her grave at the thought of her image being used as a marketing ploy for so many products, we do believe she would be proud that she is being honored with her very own Barbie.
In a recent press release, Mattel announced that Barbie is set to release three new dolls that depict powerful and impactful women in history. Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart, and Katherine Johnson will be the newest dolls in their "Inspiring Women" collection. While there is no release date yet, the dolls will be mass produced and sold in stores across the country. Each doll will come with educational information about her impact.
Barbie is honoring Kahlo for being a symbol of strength, originality, and unwavering passion - addressing important topics like identity, class, and race while she was alive. This is the type of woman we definitely want our daughters to play with and emulate. We're getting our wallets ready!
What do you think? Will you be buying the Frida Kahlo Barbie doll?
